Space telescope marker study

One complete orbiting space telescope in three-quarter view, long cylindrical optical tube with open front aperture and a hinged lid, two rectangular solar panels connected on opposite sides by short arms, and a compact rear instrument housing. Coherent perspective and connected mechanical structure, no star field or scenery. Practice connected mechanical planes, ellipses and structural shading in marker.

A way into the drawing

  1. Map the optical tube

Construct the long cylinder and its front aperture with aligned ellipses.

  2. Attach the equipment

Connect two solar panels to opposite sides of the tube and add the hinged lid and rear housing.

  3. Separate the planes

Use local values and surface-following marks to distinguish the tube, aperture and panel planes.

A small thing to tryAlign the aperture ellipses before adding panel divisions or smaller fittings.
