A way into the drawing

  1. Draw the center

Start with a slim body and two curved antennae. Keep a light vertical guide through the middle.

  2. Open out the wings

Build two broad upper wings and two smaller lower wings, working outward from the body.

  3. Add a few markings

Echo the outside curves inside each wing. Fill a few small shapes with solid black.

A small thing to tryAim for balance rather than perfect symmetry. Small differences give your butterfly character.
