Castle graphite study

One compact storybook castle with a central arched gate, two round towers and simple pointed roofs, no landscape. Practice form, overlap and selective shading in graphite.

A way into the drawing

1. Establish the main shapes

   Block in the central gatehouse and two tower cylinders.

2. Connect the structure

   Connect the roofs, gate and a few clear window openings.

3. Develop the drawing

   Use selective interior marks and local shadow groups to explain the overlaps. Keep the lighter planes open rather than shading every surface.
