A way into the drawing

  1. Curve the back and tail

    Draw an arched body and extend the tail into a loose spiral. Keep the spiral separate from the back legs.

  2. Place the head and bent legs

    Add an angular head with a rounded eye. Bend the legs toward a short branch below.

  3. Show the branch grips

    Wrap simple paired grips around the branch. Finish with a few broad back bumps and small overlap shadows.
