A dachshund with a long body

Practice proportions with a long-bodied dachshund in profile. Short legs, one floppy ear, and a gently curved tail provide useful overlaps without fur texture.

A way into the drawing

  1. Set the long low body

Draw a long soft body shape and a rounded chest. Place a small head above the front, extending it into a long muzzle.

  2. Place the short legs and ear

Add the near legs first, then show the far legs partly behind them. Drop a floppy ear over the cheek and curve the tail behind the body.

  3. Choose the face and overlap accents

Add the small eye, nose, and a few toe marks. Keep pencil tone close to the ear and leg overlaps, leaving the coat open.

A small thing to tryCompare the leg length with the body length before adding paws; that proportion gives the dachshund its character.
