A hedgehog on a short walk

Use a low rounded body and a pointed muzzle to draw a walking hedgehog. Broad spine tufts suggest its coat without filling the page with tiny marks.

A way into the drawing

  1. Shape the silhouette

Draw a low rounded back and bring the front down into a pointed muzzle. Leave room beneath the body for the short feet.

  2. Place face and feet

Add a small ear, eye, and dark nose. Draw the near feet clearly and let the far feet show only a little behind them.

  3. Suggest the spines

Break the upper outline into broad tufts and add a handful of V-shaped marks inside. Use a small gray accent beneath the muzzle and belly.

A small thing to trySpace the spine marks apart. The jagged outer shape already tells the viewer what the coat feels like.
