A pony with a loose curved mane

Practice a horse with clear forms and selected overlaps. Set four legs beneath the torso, partly hiding the far pair. Add simple hoof ends without small anatomical grooves. Divide the mane into a few broad sections and draw the tail as one flowing shape. Keep graphite near the overlaps.

A way into the drawing

  1. Connect the torso and neck

Draw a rounded torso and a gently arched neck leading to the long muzzle. Keep the back line relaxed.

  2. Place the legs

Set four legs beneath the torso, partly hiding the far pair. Add simple hoof ends without small anatomical grooves.

  3. Flow the mane and tail

Divide the mane into a few broad sections and draw the tail as one flowing shape. Keep graphite near the overlaps.

A small thing to tryUse a light ground guide for the hooves, then remove it from the finished sketch.
