A way into the drawing

  1. Bend the neck and bill

Draw a gently bent neck and a small head. Extend a long bill with a curved pouch beneath it.

  2. Round the body and wing

Attach a broad body and a folded wing. Divide the wing into a few large feather sections.

  3. Support the bird

Add two short legs and simple webbed feet. Keep graphite beneath the pouch and at the wing overlap.

A small thing to tryDraw the pouch as a broad hanging curve rather than several narrow wrinkles.
