A penguin with a slight lean

Practice an upright oval, a white belly shape, and simple flippers with this penguin. A slight lean gives the pose character without adding texture.

A way into the drawing

  1. Find the lean

Sketch an upright oval with a slight forward tilt and place the rounded head above it. Mark the short beak at the front.

  2. Attach flippers and feet

Draw a flipper on each side and two broad feet beneath the body. Keep the far flipper narrower to suggest the turning pose.

  3. Separate the coat

Outline the white belly and fill the head and back as a simple dark area. Add the small eye and a faint shadow under the feet.

A small thing to tryProtect the white belly before filling dark areas. Its shape matters more than feather detail.
