Fairy lantern fine ink study

One small fantasy lantern shaped like an acorn, a cup-shaped base, domed cap, arched handle and broad translucent chamber. Practice form, overlap and selective shading in fine ink.

A way into the drawing

1. Establish the main shapes

   Stack the cup base, chamber and domed cap.

2. Connect the structure

   Join the handle and separate the chamber from its frame.

3. Develop the drawing

   Use selective interior marks and local shadow groups to explain the overlaps. Keep the lighter planes open rather than shading every surface.
