Luna moth & moon

Long, graceful wings and a tiny crescent moon make this a calming pencil study. Focus on the shape before the detail.

A way into the drawing

  1. Map the silhouette

Draw a light center line, a slim body, and two broad pairs of wings.

  2. Extend the tails

Pull the lower wings into long, gentle curves. Add two fine feathery antennae.

  3. Follow the wing veins

Use light branching lines that travel outward from the body. Add a small crescent above.

A small thing to tryDraw the wing veins with less pressure than the outer contour to keep the moth delicate.
