Wizard hat graphite study

One bent pointed wizard hat with a broad oval brim and a plain band, no symbols or lettering. Practice form, overlap and selective shading in graphite.

A way into the drawing

1. Establish the main shapes

   Draw the brim ellipse and tapered crown.

2. Connect the structure

   Bend the tip and wrap the band around the crown.

3. Develop the drawing

   Use selective interior marks and local shadow groups to explain the overlaps. Keep the lighter planes open rather than shading every surface.
