A little bedside lamp

Practice the curved rims of a lampshade and oval base. A few seam lines and a little underside shading give the lamp more form.

A way into the drawing

  1. Shape the shade

Place a short curved top rim, then widen the two sides toward a shallow oval at the bottom of the shade.

  2. Center the support

Place the support below the middle of the shade, widening it gently toward the bottom. Connect it to a low oval base and check that the lamp stands upright.

  3. Show the curved surface

Add a few gently curved fabric seams. Use short parallel strokes under the shade and on the darker edge of the base.

A small thing to tryKeep the front and back curves of each oval shallow. A very round ellipse can make the shade look tilted toward you.
