An acorn with a tilted cap

Combine a rounded nut and shallow cap to draw an acorn at a slight angle. A few cap marks and a narrow overlap shadow give it depth.

A way into the drawing

  1. Tilt the nut

Draw a rounded nut at a slight angle and taper its lower end to a small point. Leave the top open for the cap.

  2. Overlap the cap

Place a shallow dome over the nut and draw its lower rim across the front. Add a short curved stalk above it.

  3. Use a few cap marks

Add a handful of broad curved marks on the cap. Keep the nut white and use a narrow gray accent beneath the rim and base.

A small thing to tryMake the cap rim cross the nut clearly. That one overlap gives more depth than covering the cap in tiny scales.
