An apple with a folded leaf

Sketch an uneven apple contour and a small hollow around its stem. One folded leaf and restrained local graphite give it form without polishing the whole surface.

A way into the drawing

  1. Round the uneven contour

Draw a full apple shape with gently different sides, a shallow top dip, and a small lower notch.

  2. Set the stem and leaf

Place a short bent stem inside the top hollow. Add one pointed leaf with a clear fold along its center.

  3. Keep the graphite local

Darken the stem hollow and one leaf fold lightly. Add a small base contact, keeping the broad fruit surface open.

A small thing to tryUse the top dip and bottom notch to suggest the apple’s axis before adding the leaf.
