An aubergine with a bent stem

Practice an aubergine with clear forms and selected overlaps. Place broad pointed calyx lobes around the neck and attach a short bent stem. Add a short contour accent and small shadows beneath the calyx. Leave the broad skin surface unshaded.

A way into the drawing

  1. Bend the main body

    Draw a long plump shape that narrows into a gently bent neck. Keep the lower end rounded.

  2. Wrap the calyx

    Place broad pointed calyx lobes around the neck and attach a short bent stem.

  3. Choose local graphite

    Add a short contour accent and the small end scar. Keep graphite beneath the calyx and at the base contact, leaving the broad skin surface unshaded.
