A pair of binoculars with a central bridge

Sketch two short tapered barrels connected by a simple bridge. Lens ellipses, eyepieces, and a small focus wheel create a useful paired-form exercise.

A way into the drawing

  1. Pair the two barrels

Draw two short tapered cylinder shapes side by side. Keep their front and back ends aligned to the same perspective.

  2. Connect the bridge and eyepieces

Add the central bridge and small focus wheel. Place a smaller eyepiece behind each barrel.

  3. Choose the lens edges

Draw simple front lens ellipses with one rim line each. Keep pencil tone near the bridge overlap and selected rim edges.

A small thing to tryCompare the two front ellipses before adding the bridge so both barrels point in the same direction.
