A broccoli floret with three broad crowns

Build one broccoli floret from a branching stalk and three broad crowns. Large soft lobes suggest the florets without a field of tiny dots.

A way into the drawing

  1. Branch the thick stalk

Draw a short main stalk with a cut base, then split it into three short supports. Keep the junctions connected.

  2. Round the broad crowns

Place a large loose crown above each branch and soften the outline with a few broad lobes.

  3. Suggest the inner lobes

Add only a couple of interior curves to each crown. Use a small crease and local gray at the branching stalk.

A small thing to tryUse large connected lobes before any inner curves; tiny dots quickly make this subject too detailed.
