A way into the drawing

  1. Set the candle

Draw an oval top above two upright sides and a curved base. Add a smaller oval inside the top for the wax hollow.

  2. Curve the wax and flame

Let three broad drips hang from the upper edge. Place a short wick in the hollow and a slightly leaning teardrop flame above it.

  3. Seat it on the dish

Draw a shallow elliptical dish with a doubled rim. Add gray on one candle side, beneath the drips, and under the dish.

A small thing to tryKeep the oval top and dish tilted in the same direction. Matching those ellipses makes the candle feel stable.
