A cinnamon roll with a loose spiral

Practice a cinnamon roll with clear forms and selected overlaps. Draw a loose spiral that follows the top ellipse. Keep its turns broad and readable. Add a few broad icing drapes and small shadows beneath them. Keep most dough surfaces open.

A way into the drawing

  1. Round the low cylinder

Draw an oval top and soft short sides. Let the lower edge curve gently rather than using a hard box.

  2. Follow the spiral

Draw a loose spiral that follows the top ellipse. Keep its turns broad and readable.

  3. Drape the icing

Add a few broad icing drapes and small shadows beneath them. Keep most dough surfaces open.

A small thing to tryDraw the spiral lightly first so you can keep the spacing even as it turns inward.
