A cupcake with one frosting swirl

Build a cupcake from a tapered wrapper and one soft frosting swirl. A few wrapper folds and small overlap shadows give it form without elaborate decoration.

A way into the drawing

  1. Taper the wrapper

Draw a rounded top rim and narrower base, then connect them with slightly sloping sides.

  2. Stack the frosting curves

Build one frosting swirl from a few large overlapping curves. Finish the top with a small curl and place a berry beside it.

  3. Add the broad folds

Draw a few simple wrapper folds. Use small gray accents at frosting overlaps and one wrapper edge, leaving the rest open.

A small thing to tryLet each frosting tier hide part of the tier beneath it so the swirl feels stacked.
