Practice a eucalyptus sprig with clear forms and selected overlaps. Add broad rounded leaves at slightly different tilts. Let one near leaf hide a small part of a farther leaf. Draw a single vein in each leaf and a little graphite at selected joins. Keep the leaf faces open.

A way into the drawing

  1. Curve the main stem

    Draw a slender curved stem and choose three loose positions for the leaf pairs.

  2. Vary the leaf angles

    Add broad rounded leaves at slightly different tilts. Let one near leaf hide a small part of a farther leaf.

    Draw a single vein in each leaf and a little graphite at selected joins. Keep the leaf faces open.
