A dumpling with a few broad pleats

Draw one crescent-shaped dumpling with a softly rounded base. A few broad pleats and small seam shadows explain the fold without intricate dough texture.

A way into the drawing

  1. Round the dumpling body

Draw a low crescent with a plump front and gently flattened base. Mark the curved seam above the belly.

  2. Fold the broad pleats

Add a small set of broad pleats along the seam, letting each fold overlap the next. Keep their spacing readable.

  3. Accent the overlaps

Use a little graphite inside selected pleats and at the base. Leave the broad front of the dough open so the fold shapes stay clear.

A small thing to tryDraw the main crescent before the pleats so the folds follow the same curved seam.
