A doughnut with a little icing

Draw an oval ring and wavy icing edge to give a doughnut simple depth. A few sprinkles provide detail without crowding the surface.

A way into the drawing

  1. Place the ring

Draw a broad slightly uneven oval and a smaller hole near its center. Leave enough dough around every side of the hole.

  2. Separate the icing

Follow the top with a loose wavy icing edge, leaving a narrow dough side visible below. Let some drips hang a little farther down.

  3. Add a light finish

Place a few short sprinkles far apart. Add pale gray inside the hole and just beneath the icing edge to separate the layers.

A small thing to tryCheck the hole against the outer oval first. An off-center hole is harder to fix once the icing details are in place.
