A monstera leaf with a few open splits

Draw one broad monstera leaf from a heart-shaped outline. A few open splits, simple holes, and selected veins create structure without a dense vein pattern.

A way into the drawing

  1. Draw the broad leaf shape

Start with a loose heart-shaped blade and a short curved stem. Keep the two sides slightly different.

  2. Open the splits and holes

Cut a few broad splits into the edges and place simple holes inside the blade. Leave enough leaf between each opening.

  3. Select the main veins

Draw the central midrib and a small set of broad side veins. Add only a little gray at a turned edge.

A small thing to tryPlan the empty openings before the veins so neither crowds the other.
