An old key with a round bow

Use two circles, a straight shaft, and a notched end to sketch an old key. A narrow doubled edge introduces thickness without polished metal shading.

A way into the drawing

  1. Place the bow and shaft

Draw a round bow with a smaller opening, then extend a narrow straight shaft from its lower side. Keep the shaft centered on the bow.

  2. Cut the simple notches

Add a small collar and a rectangular bit at the far end. Use two clear notches rather than lots of tiny teeth.

  3. Suggest the metal edge

Double a short section of the lower edge to show thickness. Add tiny pale accents near the collar and bit, keeping most of the key white.

A small thing to tryCompare the shaft width with the bow opening. Keeping that relationship clear makes the key feel like one connected object.
