A radish with two loose leaves

Draw a rounded radish that tapers into a thin root, with two overlapping leaves above it. Simple folds and a few main veins keep the drawing approachable.

A way into the drawing

  1. Taper the bulb into a root

Draw a rounded shape that narrows at the bottom. Continue the point into a thin gently curved root.

  2. Overlap the two leaves

Place two short stems at the crown, then add broad wavy leaf shapes. Let one leaf overlap the base of the other.

  3. Add a few structural marks

Draw one midrib and a few side veins in each leaf. Add short crown creases and a tiny shadow at the leaf overlap, leaving the bulb open.

A small thing to tryUse long curves for the leaves before adding their wavy edges. This keeps them from becoming a collection of disconnected bumps.
