One rain boot after a walk

Sketch a single rain boot from a tall shaft, rounded toe, and thick sole. A few seams and a small pull tab keep the object recognizable and manageable.

A way into the drawing

  1. Build the shaft and foot

Sketch a tall tapered shaft and a broad foot pointing to one side. Round the toe and connect the heel with a smooth curve.

  2. Give the boot an opening

Add an oval cuff opening and a small pull tab. Draw a thick sole beneath the foot without detailing every tread.

  3. Suggest the material

Place a short ankle fold and a few broad sole notches. Small gray accents in the opening and under the fold suggest depth.

A small thing to tryKeep the foot long enough for the shaft. Compare the toe-to-heel length with the height before adding seams.
