A pair of open scissors

Sketch two crossing blades and a pair of oval handles with open scissors. The round pivot and a few edge accents make a useful overlap exercise.

A way into the drawing

  1. Set the blade directions

Draw two long guides crossing at the pivot. Choose a clear opening between them, then taper each blade toward its tip.

  2. Connect the two handles

Follow each blade through the pivot into a handle shank. Add an oval finger loop at the end of each shank.

  3. Clarify the overlap

Place the round pivot and choose which blade sits on top. A few light edge lines and a small overlap shadow are enough.

A small thing to tryTrace each blade through the pivot to its own handle. This helps avoid a pair of blades attached to the same loop.
