A stapler opened just a little

Practice a stapler with clear forms and selected overlaps. Connect the forms at the back with a simple hinge. Add a narrow metal jaw in the opening. Draw one broad top seam and small shadows beneath the upper arm. Keep the larger surfaces open.

A way into the drawing

  1. Align the two long forms

Draw a flat base and a rounded upper arm above it. Let the front opening stay narrow.

  2. Join the rear hinge

Connect the forms at the back with a simple hinge. Add a narrow metal jaw in the opening.

  3. Choose the overlap accents

Draw one broad top seam and the small plain anvil on the base. Use narrow gray under the upper arm and at the hinge, leaving the larger surfaces open.

A small thing to tryKeep the upper arm and base aimed in the same direction so the hinge feels connected.
