A tulip with two long leaves

Practice overlapping petals with a single tulip and two sweeping leaves. Keep the flower open and use only a little pencil tone where the forms meet.

A way into the drawing

  1. Shape the flower cup

Sketch a loose cup shape with an uneven opening. Divide it into the main overlapping petals before adding their smaller edges.

  2. Sweep the stem and leaves

Draw a slender curved stem, then two long leaves that bend in different directions. Keep the leaf tips complete and visible.

  3. Show the overlaps

Add a few petal folds and a simple line along each leaf. Use narrow, pale pencil accents at overlaps and selected edges, leaving most interiors open.

A small thing to tryMake each leaf with a long continuous curve. A little wobble is more natural than many short corrections.
