A way into the drawing

  1. Block in the cut loaf

Sketch the loaf as a rounded form with a tilted cut face. Add a crust rim around the face, keeping its thickness consistent.

  2. Place the leaning slice

Draw one thick slice overlapping the side. Match its cut face to the loaf and show a narrow strip of crust along its edge.

  3. Choose the larger holes

Add the three scoring cuts and a handful of larger crumb holes. Use broad gray shadows beneath the slice and around the cut faces; simplify the smaller speckles.

A small thing to tryLet the large crumb holes and crust thickness establish the cut face; simplify the smaller speckles.
