Moon over the mountains

A quiet mountain scene with layers of peaks and a small moon. Use value and overlapping shapes to create depth.

A way into the drawing

1. Layer the peaks

   Sketch three uneven mountain silhouettes, letting the nearer shapes overlap the distant ones.

2. Choose the light

   Mark one side of each peak as shadow. Keep the farthest mountain the palest.

3. Finish with small trees

   Add a line of simple pines near the base and a crescent moon in the open sky.

A small thing to tryLet your background peaks fade. Stronger contrast in the foreground makes a small sketch feel spacious.
