A small cabin with a gable roof

Start with a roof triangle and a box, then add a door, window, and a few board lines. The shallow side view offers a small perspective challenge.

A way into the drawing

  1. Place roof and walls

Draw the front wall and a triangle above it. Add a narrow side wall and connect the roof edges to make the building feel solid.

  2. Add the openings

Set the door, square window, chimney, and doorstep. Keep the window divisions simple and align them with the wall.

  3. Suggest the materials

Use a few horizontal board lines and short roof marks. Darken beneath the eaves. Add the chimney divisions last, keeping the large wall areas light.

A small thing to tryKeep the structural edges clear before adding texture. A few board lines are enough to suggest timber.
